Welltris is a 3 - dimensional Tetris game that comes to us from a Russian author and Spectrum HoloByte. Welltris needs at least a Mac Plus and will run in color on a MacII with system 6.02 or higher, 2MB of memory and an 8 bit video card BUT it will NOT run in color on a IIci or the IIfx. The disk is not copy protected but the program is password protected. The game is loaded with superb graphics of Russian culture and music.
After an attractive opening screen showing you the credits, you are presented with the password screen. You will receive 2 chances to answer the question correctly before you are returned to the finder. You are shown a flag and asked to supply some bit of information related to it. The answers are scattered throughout the manual but the screen tells you the page on which you will find the answer. You are required to supply only the first 4 characters since some of the names are long and cumbersome to type.
The setup screen is next. There are 3 difficulty levels and 5 speed levels. Level one sends simple shapes at random for you to place into the grid, while level 3 sends the simple as well as weird complicated shapes your way. The speed level is self-explanatory.
Now onto the game. You are looking into a deep well. The randomly selected pieces fall down the side walls and it is your job to place them into the bottom in an orderly fashion so they form one complete column or row. The keyboard or number keypad controls allow you to rotate each piece as well as move them right or
left and up or down. Once the piece hits the bottom of the well
you are only allowed to rotate it. As lines are filled they are
removed and the remaining pieces move together. The game
